For PR students, the academic year starts on Monday, 2 February. Excitement is in the air, and yes, even a bit of fear. Take a deep breathe because here are some handy tips to help you deal with start-of-year-stress. Hopefully these are tips could help save you time, money and even point you in the direction of some pretty useful resources for the eager beavers and geek badge wearers (geeks are the new surfers after all).
Class Timetables
Coming soon... the timetables for the semester. Watch this space for updates on our timetable.
Textbooks
For those of you stressing about what textbooks to buy and where to buy them, stress not because this will be discussed in your first classes. The PR lecturers are also kind enough to have these written up in your subject learner guides which are handed out in class. Great tip: make sure you do not miss your first classes.
Save yourself some cash by keeping you eyes glued to the notice boards. Students selling-off their textbooks often post adverts around campus, but before you buy make sure that it is the correct book and the version that you will need for class.
It is a great resource and it is free! It is the eMarketing – the essential guide to online marketing by Rob Stokes and all those geniuses at Quirk Marketing.
You can download the book from http://www.quirk.biz/emarketingtextbook/home
Sports and Student Affairs
CPUT has a range of fun sports and cultural clubs you could join. Visit CPUT Student Affairs online or watch this space for updates.
Student Counselling
Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Visit the Student Counselling Centre on campus (Admin Building) and book a session with a trained psychologist. They are able to help you plan your career goals, improve your time management skills and give you tools to improve your personal relationships. Remember, rather out than in when it comes to your worries and as we know, a problem shared is a problem halved.
